This summer, we've been quite busy - moving to the new farm! That's right - we finally picked out our perfect farm, just outside of Rocky Mount, Virginia. On it's 22.6 acres, we have 12 acres of fenced pasture land, 10 acres of hardwood forest, two creeks, two springs, and over 800 feet of Pigg River frontage!
Our poultry has been moved, and though we still need to build winter coops, they are enjoying their temporary runs. Between steel dog kennel panels, electric net fencing, and our new livestock guardian dog, they should be safe and sound. We've even managed to squeeze in a trip up to the Great Lakes to pick up several more foundation flocks - more about that in another post! We intend to get back into Romanov meat sheep, but that will likely be a project for 2025 - there are fences to mind, pasture to improve, and shelters to build before we can take on new lambs.
In the meantime, we will be preparing ground for row crops and an orchard, getting our craftworks set up, and settling into our new home.
We are looking forward to seeing where this new farm takes us!
